Tigers Roar

Welcome to 'Tigers Roar' our regular newsletter regarding everything Tigers.

SEASON 2018 - 2019

Tigers Roar – January 2019
Welcome to 'Tigers Roar', our regular newsletter for family and friends of Old Windsor Tigers FC. Two weeks into the New Year, and all teams are back in action, enjoying their football. Big thanks to all the coaches, parents, supporters and of course the players. You can read about their exploits – and especially Steve O’Hara’s epic match reports, on our Facebook page.

It seems a long time ago now, but thanks also to everyone who made the Christmas tournament at the Rec a great success- especially Mark Beales for stepping up to organise the games, and to all who helped at our popular stall at the Old Windsor Christmas Fayre, including Perfetti for the sweets!

Sat 2 March - OWTFC community taster morning – courtesy of the Co-op!
On Saturday 2 March, it just so happens that most our teams are playing at home on the Rec so we are taking this opportunity to host the inaugural spring OWTFC community taster morning – kindly sponsored by the Co-op as part of their big reopening following refurbishment at the end of February. They are providing refreshments at the Youth Club all morning (9 am -12 noon) and an 'irresistible' luxury hamper as a raffle prize. We will run open cubs training and skills taster session for younger age groups, and invite brownies and rainbows, cubs and beavers, King’s Court and other schools – so look out for our posters and flyers and spread the word among your networks.

Looking ahead – key dates for your diary
We have a busy few months ahead – please note these key events in May and June:
·       Thu 9 May - OWTFC AGM and End of Season final planning – all welcome
·       Sat 11 May - End of Season Tournament and 2019/20 registration
·       Sat 18 May - End of Season Presentations, Prize Giving and Barbecue
·       Sat 8 June - OWTFC Stall at Old Windsor Carnival
·       Sun 9 June - OWTFC Carnival Tournament

2019/20 season registration and subs
Over the last couple of years, as the price of essentials like training facilities and kits continues to increase, we have been struggling to cover our costs. At our committee meeting on Monday we voted on various options and agreed the following actions:
1.     We aim to have all current players registered and invoices issued by mid-May.
2.     We will raise subs for the 2019/20 season from £130 to £140 for all squad-registered players. Also from next season, the club will no longer provide free kits, so parents will need to pay towards kit as and when each coach decides they are needed. Of course, all current players have new kits this season, and it is not anticipated that they will need new kits every year. We are grateful to Anthony and Joanne of ABK Security for their continued sponsorship of our club, and all kits will continue to sport the ABK logo. We will continue to explore opportunities for additional income generation.
3.     We will introduce new discounted subs of £100 for training only players, in order to encourage growth and inclusion, and cubs subs will be kept at £80.

Growing players and coaches – especially girls!
Our squad numbers are limited at each age group by the league and FA, but we don’t want to turn players away, so hope offering discounted subs for training only will encourage more to join, especially at younger age groups. Our ambition is to increase the number of teams and hope to have two teams at each of u7, u8, u9, u10 and u11 at least. This means training more coaches to do Level 1 courses before the end of this season, and we already have several candidates. OWTFC pays the full cost of the 4-day course, so if you are interested or know someone who might be, please contact me or Adam – adams@owtfc.org.
As you know we are particularly keen to recruit more female coaches and players, and we are also planning to do some demonstration sessions with our current female players in Brownies, Rainbows and at King’s Court and pre-school to promote football as an option for girls. So if you know any girls who are interested in football, or potential coaches – please do encourage them to get in touch!

Charlie the Tiger set for comeback
Charlie, our very own club mascot, is looking to make a comeback at our big events in 2019, starting on 2 March. If you want to book or even to ‘be’ Charlie (suggest 9-14 year old) for an event, contact Anthony – anthonyy@owtfc.org.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me via Chair@owtfc.org if you have questions or suggestions about any aspect of the club. If you have any issues or questions about player welfare you would like to discuss in confidence, please contact Helen via Welfare@owtfc.org.

Best wishes and COYT!
